O. Rahul Patharkar grew up in a small town in Virginia and was always fascinated by plant's ability to grow in all kinds of conditions. Rahul was equally fascinated with the beauty and symmetry of row crops. With a love of plants in mind, Rahul received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno with an emphasis on plant stress biology. Rahul worked as a postdoc and Research Scientist at Harvard Medical School and the University of Missouri where he focused on plant pathogen biology and plant abiotic stress tolerance. Rahul has published numerous papers in the area of plant development and stress tolerance and was also involved in helping Monsanto gain regulatory approval for DroughtGard maize. In 2019 Rahul joined CoverCress as the Molecular Genetics lead where he developed new gene editing technologies and glucosinolate reduction processing strategies. In 2020 Rahul became the VP of R&D overseeing gene editing product development and analytics.
